The Implementation of “Arabic Around Us” Posters to Enhance Students’ Interest in Learning Arabic at MTsN 4 Tabalong

Abstract


Arabic language instruction in Islamic junior high schools continues to face persistent challenges, particularly regarding students’ low interest in learning. Arabic is often viewed as a difficult subject with little relevance to daily life. One contributing factor is the lack of engaging and contextual learning media aligned with students’ needs and learning styles. This study aims to describe the implementation of a visual media innovation the “Arabic Around Us” poster, which displays Arabic vocabulary for everyday objects and to analyze its impact on student motivation at MTsN 4 Tabalong. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, interviews with Arabic teachers, students, and administrators, as well as visual documentation. The findings show that posters placed in strategic school areas, such as bulletin boards, drew students' attention even outside class. Students not only noticed the posters but also recalled and used the vocabulary in daily life, including during religious studies. Teachers and the principal showed strong support and recommended broader use of the posters in classroom learning. The media proved effective in boosting students' attention, interest, and active engagement in Arabic learning. A supportive school environment and openness to innovation were also key factors. The study concludes that context-based posters offer a low-cost, impactful solution for enhancing Arabic instruction and recommends further development and teacher training to maximize their benefits.
